My Business Story

When I started taking business courses in 2006, I was a little discouraged by the questions that were in the textbooks. Many of the questions asked the reader to rate an aspect of their job and since I was not employed at the time, I wondered how I could get as much out of the courses as I needed to. It wasn't long before I realized that I could apply business principles to my life right now, even without a paying career. I looked at my two kids, whom I was raising on my own, and realized that they were my job and that everything I was trying to do to raise them could be helped by applying business principles I was learning. It was a turning point in my life and one I remember distinctly. I felt empowered; that I was actually making a difference in the world even in my little town in the middle of Missouri. It was wonderful. I spent the next five years learning business principles, but while my classmates were applying those principles to their own jobs, I was deciding how to alter them to fit what I was doing at home with my kids.

I graduated with my MBA in May of 2012. Although I have had little experience using my degree in the workplace, I have had ample time to teach myself how I can use those skills in my personal life. In this blog, I wanted to share the things that I have learned and new things I am still learning with the hope that someone else can benefit with their children. Thank you for reading!
